This is Heaven Hill’s first barrel proof release of Elijah Craig for 2022. Overall I enjoyed this release. It has the qualities I prefer in the nose, palate, and finish. Some reviews I have seen on this batch mentioned a Sharpie smell and taste. This particular bottle didn’t have those qualities. But be aware this batch may have some inconsistencies in quality.
My only issue was the bit of retailer markup we saw in this area on the release. This batch didn’t start showing up in the Chattanooga area until late May, when batch B522 is typically released. It’s still worth the $70 to $80 dollars for this 12 year bottle to me, but the $60 MSRP is a much more accurate reflection of the quality in this bottle.
