Fortuna Bourbon is the revitalization of another whiskey name from years past. According to Fortuna’s website, the brand was founded in the 1880’s by Phillip Hollenbach and played an integral role in the early days of the American whiskey industry. The brand closed down in the 1960’s and is now back (similar to Green River prior to their Lux Row purchase).
Fortuna Bourbon is a nice pour that gets sweeter as you sip. It is a very light bourbon for a 102 proofer that is heavy on ethanol on the nose. However, the ethanol does not carry over to the finish and is fairly smooth. It is a nice pour, but “UnFortuna” with the price on this one, it is not a good value. If the price was down in the $30-$40 range I would recommend trying it, but at $85 this will be the only bottle I try.
