Larceny Barrel Proof batch A123 is the first release of the wheated bourbon from Heaven Hill for 2023. Unlike some of the other batches of Larceny Barrel Proof that I have tried in the past, this one was a little proofy on the nose. I do suggest letting this one open for a bit before diving in on it. After letting it open, there is some proof on the nose, but this one is surprisingly smooth on the palate and finish. The front palate is exceptionally good with a very rich, creamy caramel quality.
Overall, I really enjoyed the palate on this one. The nose was a bit higher on the proofy side than I care for, but I think some time will help with that issue. This bottle is routinely available in my area for near retail. It is definitely worth a try if you can find it at retail. Hopefully when I revisit this bottle in a few months the nose will have mellowed and I will revise this review.
