Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel

On a recent trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, I made a stop at Lux Row Distillery. The distillery has a beautiful visitor center that is definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area. Sometimes they have special bottles available for purchase. On this trip they happened to have their Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel bottle available for purchase. It was also available at the bar for $15 for a .5 oz pour and as a bonus, the glass is included.

Lux Row 12 Year Double Barrel, as the name suggests, is a blend of two roughly 12 year old barrels. Overall, the quality of this bourbon is fantastic, but in my opinion, it is not worth the retail price. At a little over $200 after taxes, there are much better 12 year bottles for a fraction of the price. On this same trip, just a few miles down the road from Lux Row, I picked up a Knob Creek 12 Year for $75 that is a much better value. I would suggest just giving this one a try at the visitor center and getting a nice glass as a bonus.

Like the name suggests, the bourbon was aged in two different barrels — for 12 years each — allowing for an extra-aged expression highlighted by notes of caramel, vanilla, oak and tobacco. Even the proof of 118.4 is a nod to the distillery, as we opened our doors in April 2018. Source: Lux Row
