Thomas H. Handy 2022

Thomas H. Handy 2022

I recently made a trip to KY to visit family and made a stop by one of my favorite bars in Lexington to find a good pour at a decent price, LexLive. This time they had a few special bottles on the shelf for a reasonable price of $26 for a 2 ounce pour. Two BTAC releases and a Weller C.Y.P.B. were available, so I tried the Thomas H. Handy 2022 release and the William Larue Weller 2022 release.

The nose on this Thomas H. Handy 2022 release is fantastic. It is a very inviting, intense blast of cinnamon raisin bread that I really enjoyed. On the palate there was more of a rye bread quality that was perfect on the first few sips. On the subsequent sips the rye bread qualities were a little stronger than I prefer. I am not a fan of rye bread, so if you do enjoy rye bread, I think this would be very enjoyable.

This is a BTAC release, so of course it is a cut above the typical whiskey on the shelf. Is it worth retail, without a doubt. Would I recommend paying what you will likely see it on the shelf for, no. I would pay a little more than retail, but would probably suggest trying to find it at a reasonable price at a bar if you want to give this one a try.
