Is Weller 12 Year a fantastic bourbon? For or near retail price, undoubtedly. Does Weller 12 Year live up to the hype that warrants a $$$ price? Not at all. Luckily, one of my local stores sells this for near retail (possibly retail now), so I get a few bottles when it is available. With the current state of the market, I would never suggest anyone to buy a bottle of this anywhere over the $75-$100 range max. It just isn’t worth that price, let alone the average market prices of $300+ I see on most sites.
Weller 12 Year is a textbook example of a great, well balanced, smooth bourbon that hits the classic notes one would expect with bourbon. The nose and palate are perfectly balanced, but mild. All of the flavors described below are there and easy to pick up, but no flavors stand out and pack a bold punch. I tend to prefer bold, complex flavors in bourbon, but the balance and elegance of the quintessential bourbon flavors found in Weller 12 Year is outstanding.
